The Victorian Government is introducing a new program to deal with domestic violence by funding accommodation for perpetrators. Previously, victims had to leave the family home to seek refuge. Now men who abuse their partners, or their children, will move to alternative accommodation while they access services to address their behaviour.

Coronavirus has led to an increase in domestic violence with families under extra stress and spending more time at home because of the lockdown. At the same time more men are seeking help to address their behaviour. The new program means that women and children who are abused will be able to remain at home and not have the additional stress of having to relocate.

There were 240 cases of coronavirus recorded overnight in Victoria with another 13 deaths. The number of active cases has dropped from 7155 to 4864 overnight due to the fact that health officials have now identified those who have fully recovered from the virus.
