The Corona Crucible – Wed 12th August

Now that golf is on hold again, exercise has been reduced so I’ve started doing an online yoga class. Walking for up to an hour each day and occasionally dancing around the house listening to old rock tracks is not enough to stop me piling on extra kilos. Neil rides his pushbike most mornings, but I am balance challenged as I have mentioned before, I can’t ride a bike.

We have at least five more weeks of Stage Four lockdown so I’ve been trying to think of things to do to pass the time at home and get more exercise. I suggested to Neil that we should buy a table tennis table to help keep us active. He thought it was a good idea and found a place online that has stock and can deliver so we placed an order. We have space in our alfresco area to set it up. Hopefully, it won’t take long to arrive.

Coincidentally, there was a story on the news last night about a woman in Melbourne, aged 98 who is the oldest person here to recover from COVID-19. How wonderful. Apparently she plays table tennis to keep active, so we’ll be in good company.

Neil and I both used to play squash, in fact that’s where we met. We used to play on the same pennant team before we hooked up. I had to give up squash about seven years ago owing to a dodgy right knee and my foot issues. BC (before corona) Neil was still playing occasionally. Table tennis will be fun and the grandkids can play when they get a bit older and when visits are allowed again. Overnight we had another 410 cases and sadly 21 more deaths from COVID-19. But there is some good news too. There are now 7877 active cases in the state. The increase in active cases has been slowing over recent days and today is the first day of this second wave that the number of active cases has gone down from the previous day, which is encouraging.
