The Corona Crucible – Thurs 9th July

Last weekend my mother chipped a tooth. The staff at her residential care facility are not taking residents to external appointments now because of the lockdown and their normal dental provider wasn’t taking appointments either. I managed to book her in at our local dentist and so we collected her and took her there today. Her teeth are in really bad way, one of her many health issues. I haven’t seen her for a few weeks and I was shocked to see how much weight she has lost. The staff told me she had also had a fall yesterday too.

There have been a few new cases of COVID-19 at several aged care facilities over recent days here in Melbourne, but fortunately not at hers. There are only about 15 active cases in our council area. The dentist we visited and the care home are all in the same area that we live, so we felt reasonably safe, but we were very careful.

While we were waiting at the dentist, Neil and I popped down the street to pick up a couple of items at the supermarket. With this new Melbourne wide lockdown, people who were in locked down suburbs last week, can now move freely around the rest of Melbourne, so we’re all in a coronavirus soup. Victoria recorded another 165 COVID-19 cases overnight including staff as several hospitals and at six aged care homes. We need to be very careful.
