The Corona Crucible – Mon 22nd June

World 9 million         Russia 580K+             Iran 200K+

The world has reached nine million COVID-19 infections. There are fears of a second wave in Victoria with 25 more cases of coronavirus added to the state tally on Saturday, another 19 yesterday and 16 since yesterday. That’s more than 100 over the past week. Premier Daniel Andrews was due to ease state restrictions today, but instead has toughened them, making the announcement that most of the recent clusters are due to people gathering in family groups and not social distancing. Melburnians have been advised not to travel to or from the districts where the bulk of these cases have been recorded. Given my compromised immune system, I’m thankful that our local area is not one of them. The closest suburb is about 15 kilometres away.

One Essendon footballer has tested positive which means that yesterday’s match between the Bombers and Melbourne has been postponed, throwing a curve ball into the AFL season and fixture.
