New Zealand has now eliminated the virus completely and has lifted all domestic restrictions, keeping its borders closed for now. New Zealand is not the first country to eliminate COVID-19. Montenegro, Eritrea, Timor-Leste, Fiji, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Vatican City, Seychelles and Papua New Guinea are also free of COVID-19. Restrictions here in Australia continue to be gradually lifted and most internal state borders will reopen in July, except Western Australia.
There’s been a worrying cluster outbreak in Beijing. China had the virus largely under control, recording only a handful of cases daily. The recent cluster of 57 cases has authorities worried that a ‘second wave’ of infection is beginning. China has recorded around 83,000 cases of COVID-19, but only 129 of these are currently active infections. A number of states in the US have reported record numbers of new cases for the fourth day in a row.
