Daniel Andrews (Deadline Warns) wants to extend the government’s emergency powers which expire in mid-September. Fear mongers are calling this move a ‘power grab’. The extension of the state of emergency powers does not mean we are staying in Stage Four lockdown past mid-September, it is only a provision so that the government has the power to take action.
When they want to sensationalise something, the media has the habit of interviewing former Premier, Jeff Kennett (TNT Knee Jeff). Why they think his opinion matters, I don’t know.
Apparently the naysayers would rather see uncontrolled virus potentially spreading and the state government powerless to do anything about it. Other states don’t have to extend their emergency powers, as they already have the facility to enforce them longer than six months.
We should be grateful we live here in Victoria with good leadership bringing this virus under control. We should be thankful we have far less cases of COVID than many other places around the world and an excellent health care system. Yes, lockdown is difficult, but we should be grateful we have enough to eat and a roof over our heads. I wish people would stop criticising and blaming.
There were 149 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Victoria overnight and sadly 24 deaths.
