The Corona Crucible – Fri 18th December

World 75.2 million    Slovenia 100K+         Lithuania 100K+

Slovenia and Lithuania have now each recorded over 100,000 cases of coronavirus, taking the number of countries to reach that number of infections to 73. Australia is now ranked 99th, with just over 28,000 people having had the virus.

The situation in Sydney is very concerning with 27 people now diagnosed in this recent outbreak. Aged care homes have gone into lockdown in the northern beaches area. The outbreak is thought to be linked to the Avalon RSL and other venues. This new outbreak is going to cause a lot of people to cancel their Christmas travel plans. Border closures are again on the cards.

Queensland is on high alert too, as one woman who flew from Sydney has tested positive.

Victoria has eight cases. All are in hotel quarantine. The health authorities here are setting up a permit system for anyone travelling from NSW and more stringent arrangements to keep Victoria clear of community transmission. Anyone from the hotspot areas in Sydney will not be allowed into Victoria.

Flight crews arriving in Victoria are now being tested and their isolation is now being monitored to ensure their compliance.

I’m happy to report that Neil will arrive home from Adelaide this afternoon.
