Very little news has come from China about how the virus has been managed there. Reported daily case numbers have been in low numbers since about March. Reports have said that Wuhan, where the virus began, is open for business as usual, including visiting tourists. Now we have heard that in the city of Qingdao, nine cases have been diagnosed at a local hospital and as a result health authorities will test nine million people this week. They have said all these people will be tested within five days. That’s 180,000 per day or 7,500 per hour every hour. Official records say that China has had around 85,000 overall cases, but given the secrecy and control of information in China there is no way to know the true number.
We have had just six new cases recorded here in Victoria in the past 24 hours, all in Melbourne. The 14 day average is down to 8.9, but the mystery case number has risen to 15.
