The World Health Organisation has said that up to 10 per cent of the world’s population may be infected with coronavirus. They estimate that the actual number of infected people could be 20 times higher than official records. That would mean that 720 million people have been infected and that 20 million have died. Despite our modern record keeping, just as in the Spanish flu pandemic, we will never really know the full extent of the impact of COVID-19.
Just six new cases have been recorded in Victoria in the past 24 hours with two more deaths. Much better numbers than recent days. Our 14 day average is now 9.9 and mystery case number (to 4 October) is now 12, so there have been no additional mystery cases for about five days. Everyone in Melbourne is holding their breath that we can keep these daily numbers down so we can get out of lockdown in around ten days from now.
