The Corona Crucible – Mon 28th September

World 33.3 million    India 6 million          Brazil 4.7 million

Today the world reached a grim milestone, with over one million deaths worldwide. Large numbers of new infections are being reported in Europe. This week the Netherlands was the latest country to reached over 100,000 infections of COVID-19.

In France daily numbers are in the order of 16,000 cases. Despite this the French Open tennis tournament, deferred from earlier this year, has now started. They are allowing 1,000 spectators into Roland-Garros. It seems that they are getting quite complacent about the nature of this virus, especially given that back on 24 May when the event was originally scheduled, France only recorded 115 cases.

Here in Victoria we’re now in single digits! Just five new cases here overnight and three fatalities.

Our 14 day average is now 20.3. The mystery number is steady at 31. Both these numbers need to be below five before we take the next step on 19 October.
