The coronavirus situation in Melbourne is getting worse with infection clusters in many nursing homes and hospitals. I really think that the state government needs to go harder. New Zealand has not had any cases of community transmission for two months. If we had made that choice for elimination we would be potentially virus free now too. Instead we are facing five more weeks of Stage Three restrictions with no guarantees at the end of that.

One week into Stage Three, Victoria recorded another 317 cases of COVID-19 overnight, the largest daily increase we’ve had to date. It’s going from bad to worse, but Daniel Andrews and Brett Sutton have said there is ‘relative stability’ in the number of cases being recorded. Apparently that’s a good thing. The Premier said today that Stage Four restrictions are not being announced today, though I suspect they are being discussed.
