There seems to be no explanation as to why the COVIDsafe app has so far been ineffective. Prime Minister Scott Morrison is still urging people to download it. It was meant to help track and advise people if they have been in close contact with any person diagnosed with COVID-19, but so far it’s done nothing.
There was a report in The Age yesterday that some people are only being advised two weeks after being exposed. The manual tracking system is now totally overloaded with so many cases of community transmission to manage. Melbourne University epidemiologist, Professor Tony Blakely said, ‘Ideally, that contact tracing should be happening within hours.’ Another 273 cases of COVID-19 were recorded overnight in Victoria.
