The Corona Crucible – Fri 3rd July

World 10. 9 million   Sweden 70K+            Finland 7K+  Norway 8K+  Denmark 12K+

Sweden didn’t go into lockdown, but left it up to each individual to be responsible and social distance. That experiment has largely failed. Currently, Sweden sits 24th on the infection list with over 70,000 diagnosed cases which is more than 6,500 per one million of population. Australia has around 300 cases per one million of population.

But the testing rate in Sweden is extremely low and only the very ill are being tested, so nobody really knows the full extent of infection. All other Scandinavian countries bought in strict measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 similar to those in Australia. The total number of known infections reported in Sweden is more than twice the number of cases in Finland, Norway and Denmark combined and given the minimal testing being undertaken in Sweden, infection numbers are no doubt significantly higher than the reported figures. An enquiry into Sweden’s response to the virus has been announced.

There were another 66 cases of coronavirus diagnosed here in Victoria overnight and there are a few cases in other states, some of which originated in Victoria. Australia has now recorded over 8,000 cases of COVID-19.
