The Corona Crucible – Wed 1st July

World 10.5 million     USA 2.7 million       Brazil 1.4 million

The AFL fixture has been thrown into disarray with Queensland bringing in new border restrictions affecting Victoria. It will open all other state borders from 10 July but no Victorians will be permitted to visit. Richmond was meant to play West Coast in Queensland this Thursday, (under special travel arrangements) but now Sydney will play them on Saturday. Melbourne was scheduled to play Sydney, but will now play Richmond at the MCG on Sunday.  South Australia is also keeping its border with Victoria closed for the foreseeable future which will dramatically affect AFL matches. I’d hate to be trying to organise the fixture. It’s only going to get more chaotic as the season goes on. That’s assuming that the 2020 season goes the full distance.

Meanwhile, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has asked the Prime Minister for all returning international flights to be diverted away from Melbourne for two weeks so that there are no additional returning travellers to manage in quarantine. Corrections Victoria will now oversee the hotel quarantine program to safeguard Melburnians from further outbreaks. Other states used Police and ADF personnel to manage hotel quarantine but Victoria used private security personnel, which is now seen as the root cause of the recent spike in cases. Other states are helping Victoria manage our surge in cases with additional tests and extra personnel to help manage the situation in our state.

Another 73 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Victoria overnight. The lockdown affecting 36 suburbs across ten postcodes in Melbourne starts at midnight tonight and will be enforced by Victoria Police.
