At the start of May there were 3.3 million cases of COVID-19 globally. Now over 6 million people have been infected with the virus. The number of infections has doubled in one month. In the US there were just over one million cases of coronavirus a month ago, now there are almost two million. The death toll in the US is now over 100,000. Global fatalities are over 370,000.
Darn Dum Plot has announced he is ‘terminating’ the relationship between the US and the World Health Organisation, claiming China has total control over the organisation. Since taking office, he has quit the UN Human Rights Council, the UN cultural agency UNESCO, a global accord to tackle climate change and the Iran nuclear deal. Not to mention the catastrophe unfolding domestically in the US. Make America great again? Yeah right. I reckon Homer Simpson would do a better job.
Violent protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, have erupted right across America. The Police Officer who pinned him down by the neck, resulting in his death, has been charged with murder, but protests and looting continue to spread. The White House was in lockdown as the protestors gathered in the capital.
First there were protests about the coronavirus lockdown, now anger has boiled over at the poverty, racism and inequality experienced by many blacks in America, triggered by George Floyd’s death. But a lot of the demonstrators are young white Americans, smashing windows and burning vehicles. With the lack of support on offer from the federal government, widespread hardship and suffering, two million people infected and 100,000 dead from the virus, and 40 million Americans out of work, it doesn’t take much to push people over the edge. As I have said before, I think the US is heading for a revolution. Anarchy and civil war are a real possibility.
