On Thursday September 15 at 6pm I will be talking to Denise Hughes on community radio station wyn88.9 about the astrological picture this September Equinox.

Pisces Full Moon

12 September

At this Full Moon the Virgo Sun and Pisces Moon square off with the Nodal axis, the point in space where the path of the Sun and Moon intersect and where eclipses occur. This grand cross, occurring in mutable signs, suggests a great deal is in transition. The rapid pace of change we are witnessing continues to accelerate.

A mutable grand cross is a bit of a contradiction in terms. Squares present us with challenges, they fence us in and produce tension but overall they generally require that we commit to a course of action. By contrast the natural inclination of mutability is adaptable, amenable, fluid and easy going. Mutable signs present us with alternatives. They waver, and are given to fluctuations. Mutable signs are those which correspond to seasonal changes. When the Sun is mutable signs Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and Sagittarius, the weather is in transition from one season to the next. In the southern hemisphere the end of winter and beginning of spring signals a time to prepare for the new season of growth, in the northern hemisphere it signals a time to build up stores of energy to be held in reserve.

This Full Moon highlights the fact that we are transitioning from one state to another but at the same time we need to make decisions and adjustments. Everything is in a state of flux. This grand cross presents us with a problem – as situations are changing they may not be to our liking and we may decide to follow a different path. Will the outcome change again? Or should we stay put and adjust our own thinking and values? Several solutions may be possible, none of which is very clear. Which option to choose?

Like a new pair of shoes, we may have to ‘try them on’ to see if they fit and if we feel comfortable. Are they the right size and style for what we are doing? Should we be wearing something more practical, or dressier? Perhaps we should we change what we are doing, and keep wearing the same comfortable old shoes? The difficulty is that it is tricky to be sure-footed when the ground is moving underfoot.

Spring Equinox

Libra Ingress

23 September

The September Equinox marks the true start of spring in the Southern hemisphere. What will the new season bring?

Equinoxes happen twice each year when there is equal day and night everywhere on Earth.  On September 23 at 7.04.38pm AEST, as the Sun enters Libra, the sign of the scales, the new season reminds of the importance of balance and equality. Libra is a yang cardinal air sign that teaches us to honour relationships and respect the values and opinions of others. Compromise is something Libra does well, but at the same time Venus is urging us to honour our inner values. Some compromises can be difficult to swallow.

Venus is emerging into the evening sky at this Equinox perfectly on cue. Having travelled behind the Sun, Venus has been transformed into an evening star and is commencing a nine month gestation as a fertile love goddess. In her evening phase Venus is mature, maternal and sensitive. A new set of priorities are emerging and adjustments may be needed.

Saturn, the planet or responsibility, is still moving through Libra and pressing us to honour our obligations. With Juno, goddess of marriage in Libra too, in a bigger picture sense we are seeing the gay marriage debate heating up. Equality, fairness and balance and relationships are key aspects of Libra, the sign of the scales. The current emphasis on Libra will help establish laws and regulations across the board which are fairer and more equitable. The power balance in relationships is changing. Saturn in Libra will help us choose wisely and build from the ground up, that will help establish new laws and fairer arrangements.

Wherever inequality exists, the current emphasis on Libra will help us make the right choices. Ultimately, Libra prefers peace and harmony to conflict. If compromises cannot be reached, and we have weighed up the alternatives, we may decide to go separate ways or simply agree to disagree.

Libra New Moon

27 September

Just a few days after the equinox, this Libra New Moon ushers in a new cycle of growth. Libra is a fertile sign and right now there are six planets here. There are a number of quintile aspects (pale blue lines) that link the planets in a fertile and highly creative pattern.

The challenge presented at this New Moon is in the tight square it makes to Pluto in Capricorn, which continues to pressure us to alter our human wastefulness and use the planet’s limited resources more wisely. Pluto governs the Underworld, symbolically and literally – so we are seeing issues connected to mining very much in the news. Mining tax, mining leases and land use issues along with the carbon tax are all part of this archetypal theme. So too is the price of gold, which is skyrocketing. The resources boom is part and parcel of this Pluto in Capricorn cycle. Our use of power and the earth’s resources must change. Pluto transforms slowly, but relentlessly.

On a personal level, the question is how do we manifest and build upon our creative ideas, projects and activities? This square gives us a real opportunity to do so, though we may have to take a completely fresh approach.

Venus is approaching Saturn, looking to make a new long term commitment. She needs to feel that her efforts are appreciated. Mutual respect, common purposes and goals are important now.

The goddess of love and beauty is asking us to strike a balance between giving and receiving.

Wishing you all a very happy and creative spring. In the interests of life balance, I am taking a short break. Please note that there won’t be an INsight in October
