Gemini New Moon and Partial Solar Eclipse

This clever Gemini New Moon illuminates new ideas. With Mercury in earthy Taurus, useful ideas with a practical purpose will find an application. However, mysterious Neptune stations retrograde shortly after this New Moon, which is a bit like when you swallow liquid the wrong way; it can result in the odd hiccup which disrupts ease of communication.

Different interpretations of the same facts may bring confusion. Who are we to believe? Media spin especially related to spiritual matters, oil, water and climate change continue to be slippery fish. It is important therefore to be clear and concise as we attempt to get our message across. Check facts and make editorial changes now.

Jupiter meanwhile is about to shift into earth sign Taurus, heralding a time of more sustained growth, rather than rapid fire action.  After reaching perihelion in Aries Jupiter’s pace is beginning to slow a little, focusing attention on farming, real estate and practical matters related to material security. The focus is on sustainability.

Growth, as an economic model is proving to be unsustainable over the long term because earthly limitations in terms of space, time and resources are not taken into account. Jupiter in Taurus over the next 12 months should help us develop more sustainable practices.

Sagittarius Full Moon and Total Lunar Eclipse

16/6/2011

You will have to get up before the Sun if you want to see this total lunar eclipse. In eastern Australia it will be visible low in the western sky before sunrise, weather permitting. Set your clocks for around 6am.

Saturn turns direct a few days before this eclipse. Stationing at 10 Libra, Saturn brings pressure to bear, making us more conscious of the passage of time and the need to meet deadlines. The time for making plans is over, now it is time to put those plans into action.

The Moon governs unconscious patterns, feelings and emotional responses. The Moon has no light of its own, it only reflects the light of the Sun. During an eclipse however, the shadow of the Earth passes over the Full Moon, so its reflected light is temporarily screened off.

Lunar eclipses alter our perceptions. We see things in a new light. These new personal insights into our emotions can come as a result of a discussion or interaction with others but mostly because the way we 'reflect' is altered.

When we see a lunar eclipse, we are looking at the shadow of the Earth. This serves to remind us of our shadow selves. This eclipse helps us to develop a broader and new understanding of our unconscious behaviours, habits and emotional reactions.

Often we react to a presenting problem according to a past memory which has a similar emotion or belief behind it. This eclipse provides an opportunity to recall past experiences, but react differently.

Cancer Ingress

Solstice

22/6/2011

At this Cancer solstice the Moon, Chiron and Neptune converge in the spiritual sign of Pisces. This evokes a feeling of peace, healing and empathy. It is one thing to dream about world peace, and other to heal religious divisions, yet at this Solstice we might at least pause to reflect on such matters.

There are now two grand crosses in the sky now, one mutable and one cardinal. While mutable signs ask us to keep an open mind and adapt to changing circumstances, cardinal signs emphasise the need for leadership and initiative. These squares are challenging us to make overdue changes and develop new initiatives. Mutable Pisces and cardinal Cancer are both watery, feeling signs. This places emphasis on our personal, family and inner spiritual life. With enough compassion and understanding we should be able to navigate these waters successfully.

There’s another partial solar eclipse on 1 July. This is the first eclipse in a new saros series. Being in the sign of Cancer it has an affinity with family, security, and personal matters. The focus now is on home and hearth, feelings and family. More in July…
