This is a creative and visionary Full Moon.
The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon is: Newly opened lands offer virgin realms of experience.
This theme is highlighted by Uranus turning direct, bringing a new creative impulse which is seeking expression. Full Moons herald a shift away from personal matters and towards social and collective themes, so the creativity of Uranus is likely to have a more scope, awareness and consciousness.
This lends itself to a broader understanding and a dynamic expression of creative ideas that have been germinating. The time is right for our dreams and visions of the future to be created as potential breakthroughs and new ways of seeing are revealed.
New Moon
16 December 2009
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is; A chubby boy on a hobbyhorse. This evokes a feeling of the joy and contentment of Christmas.
Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius, sextiles the New Moon, as do Neptune and Chiron, bringing tidings of joy and minimising any disruption from Mars which is about to turn retrograde. The overall feel of this New Moon is one of making preparations for the holiday season.
Both Jupiter and Sagittarius have a tendency to over indulge and with the added sweet tooth of Venus in Sagittarius, plus a few yods involving Chiron and Hygeia, it would probably be wise not to pig out too much, or over do things, lest we feel the ill effects.

Summer Solstice (Southern Hemisphere)
Jupiter and Neptune are aligning very closely now with Chiron, and importantly are lining up with Mars which has just stationed retrograde.
Mars will be in Leo for an extended visit. Mars spends the second least amount of time retrograde of all the planets after Venus, and it’s probably fair to say that it is the most difficult retrograde to master.

Mars is about action, exuberance and dynamic expression. It does not cope well with frustration, and frustration is exactly what Mars retrograde is about.
While Mars retrograde does have an enormous capacity to focus on huge tasks requiring immense effort, this is probably in part because Mars’ natural expression is thwarted when retrograde, and hence a big effort is required to make use of its energy and to overcome inner frustrations.
It can take many years for a natal Mars retro to become an asset rather than liability, and there are no guarantees. By the time Mars retrograde is mastered, the individual is likely to have developed an incredible level of endurance and stamina, be it physical, or mental, or in expressing their particular desires and creative talents.
Tennis players Martina navratilova, Steffi graf and Billie Jean King all have Mars retrograde.
Musicians Beethoven and Mozart also had Mars retrograde, as did artists Toulouse-Lautrec and Frida Khalo.
Sometimes Mars retrograde manifests natally as a total inability to know what one wants, or desires, let alone how to go about getting it. For others, it can be an intense frustration which finds no release, and for others there is a total disassociation from Mars and/or tendency to project it onto others.
For some individuals Mars retrograde creates an inferiority complex, more commonly seen perhaps in men, and for which they compensate by overly egocentric or aggressive behaviour.
Sometimes Mars retrograde operates like its moons, Phobos and Deimos, creating a feeling of fear and terror of anything masculine.
Whatever the case, Mars retrograde is a difficult energy to access, especially in one’s youth. Over time it becomes easier to handle, but this may depend on how long Mars stays retrograde by progression.
Mars can be retrograde for up to 80 days, so it’s possible to spend one’s entire life with a Mars retrograde, without it ever going direct. It is probably more difficult therefore if one is born with Mars close to station retrograde, rather than near station direct.
The current Mars retrograde lasts about 80 days which is the longest duration possible.
Mars will turn direct again on March 11, 2010 at 0 Leo.

Actress Brittany Murphy passed away suddenly today from heart failure at the age of 32. She was born 10 November 1977, shortly before Mars stationed retrograde. Her Mars was stationary retrograde by progression at the time of her death, as well as stationary retrogade in the sky.
The anatomical degree for her Mars (5 Leo) corresponds to the right pulmonary artery. Her exact time of birth is not known.
It appears her death was from natural causes. Perhaps she had a heart defect from birth, which was activated by recent stressful events in the form of Mars retrograde.
Mars' retrograde cycle is 32 years.
