December 2008

Another year is coming to an end and what a year it has been!

Pluto is now established in Capricorn heralding a major restructuring of the financial, political and business world, while Uranus and Saturn are turning the whole process into a rollercoaster ride that is making many people feel disoriented.

Challenges such as these help us evolve. Human beings have a tendency to be complacent. If we didn’t have obstacles to overcome, let’s face it, most of us would sit around all day navel gazing. How can we best make use of these energies and grow in awareness?

Current planetary aspects, challenging though they are, help us make the changes we need to make, both in our personal lives and in the wider context of the global problems we need to address, such as climate change and the imbalance in the distribution of wealth, among other things.

Next year seems set to be an equally extraordinary year, as these cycles of change continue to make their presence felt.

Venus conjunct Jupiter

1 Dec 2008

On the night of 1 December, as you turn your attention skyward you’ll see the Moon, Venus and Jupiter forming a beautiful conjunction in the western sky.

As the planet of love and the planet of abundance join with the Moon, it’s sure to be a beautiful sight, and this beauty will be reflected on Earth as a wonderful time for love and romance and the establishment of emotional and meaningful connections.

Though Jupiter is still making its way through Capricorn, where it is not altogether very comfortable, and the Moon is also not always happy in this earth sign either, their trine to Saturn, Capricorn’s ruler, in Virgo will help to smooth out any relationships wrinkles and ensure we keep our feet on the ground.

Gemini Full Moon

13 Dec 2008

Extreme SuperMoon

(see www.astropro.com For more on supermoons.

At this Full Moon the Moon is very close to the Earth, so it will appear larger than usual. In this chart the Moon opposes both Sun and Mars which square off in a tight mutable grand cross with Saturn and Uranus.

This is an intense alignment which may bring volcanic or seismic activity in its wake as extra gravitational forces are generated. Pluto is in very tight conjunction with Mercury too.

The Sabian Symbol for the Moon is: Dancing couples crowd the barn in a harvest festival. It’s party time! But the party may be short lived. Emotions may boil over and get out of hand.

Capricorn Ingress

You might remember back in September with the Libra ingress chart for Australia, I mentioned we might get a wet spring owing to the fact that the Moon was in Cancer on the Ascendant in that chart for eastern Australia.

Well it seems it never rains, but it does pour!

South East Qld has been devastated by storms and flooding, Sydney too has been wet, while in Victoria, there’s also been some rain, a sight we have not seen for many months.

At this Solstice the Sun and Pluto are making a powerful conjunction at Zero Capricorn.

As far as the weather is concerned, this suggests we are likely to experience extremes of hot and cold depending on one’s location across the globe.

Here in Australia we are coming into the fire season. With Leo rising in this chart, and the Sun/Pluto/Mars in the 5th house, parents should be extra vigilant with children and matches over coming months and take extra care with any outdoor activities such as camping and barbeques.

In a wider context, this ingress chart heralds a collective shift in our conscious awareness and the birth of something powerful. Can we be conscious of what is most difficult for us to face? Can we survive the current global financial upheaval? What must we do in order to survive and get through these difficult times?

Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, squares Mars now, bringing some frustration and highlighting the need to tighten our belts.

Retail spending may be curtailed this Christmas, but if we choose to spend money that we don’t have, then spiralling debt will probably come back to bite us early in the New Year, as Saturn's closeness to the 2nd house cusp restricts income further.

This ingress chart firmly highlights Pluto establishment in Capricorn, as we slowly become more conscious of our individual and collective ecological footprint and begin to face our responsibilities for our actions, and inactions, past, present and future.

New Moon

27/12/2008

Venus conjunct Neptune

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is: A veiled prophet of power.

And there are indeed powerful energies at work in the heavens right now.

Mars is aligning with its “higher octave” Pluto, as Mars also enters Capricorn, reinforcing Pluto’s powerful message.

At the exact moment of this New Moon, Venus conjuncts its “higher octave” planet, Neptune, exactly to the minute!

Venus and Neptune align so perfectly here, it’s almost surreal and it suggests a heightened sense of idealism. Are we willing to face reality of Pluto's need for transformation and renewal, or would we rather hold onto the illusion?

Finding a happy medium between the dream and the reality is probably the most “ideal” way to go. The emphasis on Capricorn in this chart reinforces the need to us to face reality.

This last New Moon for the 2008 semi-squares the Venus-Neptune conjunction, reinforcing the idea that we need to reflect upon what kind of future we wish to create, and work out how to go about it?

Something to ponder as we contemplate making our New Year's reolutions.

My very best wishes for the holiday season.
