4/4/2011
The powerful planetary picture of last month continues to make its presence felt. At this Aries New Moon, Mars is heroically located in its own sign and aligns with unpredictable and freedom seeking Uranus. This pairing indicates further surprising and sudden developments, such as the uprisings and rebellions we have been witnessing. Jupiter, also in Aries, is about to commence a new solar cycle and reaches perihelion this month. This is fast tracking and heightening the expansiveness for which Jupiter is known.
While Jupiter generally heralds growth and positive opportunities, with Mars as its dispositor making a conjunction to Uranus, Jupiter has even less reason to be philosophical or consider the implications of his actions. Under these conditions Jupiter is rather overblown and starts to act very much like unpredictable and risk taking Uranus. This will test Saturn’s ability to contain and control events. With this Sun-Moon opposing Saturn, it will take considerable inner fortitude to bring events under control.
Responsible Saturn opposes this rebellious Jupiter just as Jupiter reaches its fastest motion at perihelion in early April. This opposition is a particularly polarised opposition, which will further test Saturn.
The cluster of planets in Aries along with the Sun and Moon suggests courageous and daring acts. Mars, Jupiter and Uranus all have a distinct tendency to rush to action and only afterwards realise that they should have consulted more widely, or listened to advice. But in the midst of a revolution, these are the planets you need on your side. With Mercury retrograde and Epimethean, the advice of mentors will probably be sought, but perhaps only after the event.
Just hours after this New Moon, watery Neptune infiltrates Pisces and commences a new 13 year cycle. Regressing back into Aquarius in August, he will re-enter Pisces on Feb 4, 2012. Located in his own sign, Neptune will be operating powerfully in the years to come. Chiron’s ingress into Pisces last year coincided with the Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico which ushered in a cycle of wounding and healing associated with the water element. As Neptune slides into its own sign, all things fluid, mysterious and slippery will continue to infiltrate our collective experiences.
Just days before last month’s Japanese mega quake and devastating tsunami, millions of dead sardines were found floating off the coast of the California. Given the powerful planetary alignments we are witnessing, this may also be a precursor to another quake in another area of the pacific ring of fire.
Coming just 7 years after the Indonesian mega quake and tsunami the Japanese 9.0 quake was one of the largest recorded. It is worth noting that the last time giant earthquakes clustered close together was in 1960 (9.5 Chile) and 1964 (9.1 Alaska) shortly before the Pluto-Uranus conjunction (1965-6). Now that these planets have separated by 90 degrees, intense pressure for change is once again being felt across the globe in revolutionary terms, as well as deep within the Earth itself.
Libra Full Moon
This Full Moon is another Super Moon, the third Full Moon in a row which brings the Moon closer to the Earth than usual, increasing tidal effects and the potential for seismic activity. Mercury is still retrograde and joins Mars, while Mars itself heads towards a conjunction with expansive Jupiter. Saturn opposes Mars-Mercury, indicating a high level of frustration for Mars and Mercury who want to act spontaneously. Saturn however is aware of the need for a measured and long lasting result and is therefore naturally more cautious. With Mars is in its sign of rulership and Saturn exalted in Libra, the difficulty will be in how to attain consensus by negotiation and diplomacy when Mars insists on acting independently.
Recent revolutionary activity will likely come to a head as Mars and Jupiter join forces in late April. Under these astrological circumstances it would seem likely that Uranus, Jupiter and Mars will triumph, though it will be a long road back towards stability. Saturn in Libra will have to pick up the pieces in order to restructure stabilise and rebuild.
On a lighter note, the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William is set for the end of April. Their charts show a number of similarities which indicate a high level of compatibility, though Kate's retrograde Venus may not be altogether comfortable in the public arena. Their Mars's are conjunct, Kate having been born just prior to Mars station, and William shortly after Mars turned direct. Kate was born close to Full Moon, William at New Moon. Both were born on eclipses. Both have the Moon in Cancer.
There are some quite distinctive and significant transits coming up for both of them throughout the coming months and into 2012, in particular they will be experiencing their Saturn returns. Both have Mars, Saturn and Pluto in Libra suggesting they are moving into responsible positions of authority and entering a serious phase of life.
