Gillard for PM? June 2010
2010 Federal Election 21/8/2010
Julia Gillard became our first female Prime Minister in June 2010. What might happen at the coming federal election? We have never had a female Prime Minister before, and only ever one Libran Prime Minister. (More on this here).
On the face of it, there doesn’t seem to be any major indicators suggesting her elevation to a position of power.

Her time of birth is not known, but my feeling is she has an earthy Ascendant, in keeping with her level headedness and her slow, steady, deliberately measured persona, so I have opted for an 8pm time of birth which gives Taurus rising and places Jupiter and Saturn in her 10th house.

What is interesting about this chart, is the powerful quintile pattern which involves Saturn, Neptune, Uranus with the North Node, and the Moon. (She also has Juno and Vesta in a separate quintile aspect.)
Quintiles evoke naturally occuring spiral patterns which are linked to the golden mean, as seen in the motion of Venus in the heavens. The golden mean is a naturally occuring pattern of growth intrinsic to all creation, for example in plants, shells, dna, and galaxies.
The transit of Jupiter and Uranus in early Aries complete a five pointed star in her natal chart, as they now sit close to the Saturn-Moon midpoint which is 4.25 Aries (assuming the Moon’s position is correct based on her time of birth of 8pm, or somewhere close to that mark.)
Gillard’s sudden rise to power is in keeping with the transit of Jupiter and Uranus in early Aries.
The 26 June partial lunar eclipse squares this mark, suggesting Gillard’s reluctance to step forward into the position of leadership, but nevertheless the challenge of competing for this role.
Note transiting Juno, symbol of feminine power, was conjunct the MC.
Gillard was sworn in by our female Governor General!
In Australia's chart, (I use Campion's Legal creation chart which was set in Melbourne, but have relocated this to Canberra) this places transiting Juno on the MC in Australia's chart!
I really like this Libra rising chart for Australia (more on this here).
Cardinal signs are all about leadership. We have recently seen a number of very close election results across the globe, including a number of hung parliaments, notably in the UK and Tasmania, which have taken place with the current cardinal alignment in play. Cardinal squares ask us to choose which leader we will follow. The reason cardinal signs are in conflict is chiefly because there can only be one leader at a time, and so this challenge comes.
Having so many quintiles in her natal chart, and having the missing fifth arm of the five pointed star filled in, as it were, by transiting Jupiter, planet of growth and Uranus, planet of sudden developments, is in keeping with her sudden rise to power.

Kevin Rudd has been under pressure from transiting Saturn to his Sun and Mars since late last year when his popularity started to fall. This is the last pass of this transit, suggesting the pressure is about to be lifted.
I have been using an 11.18am chart for Rudd since he was elected. This was reckoned according to my intuitive rectification method, (which is simply using the time of day that I calculated the chart) as the birth time.
This gives Rudd 4.16 Capricorn rising, which seems supported by the current transit of Pluto and the lunar eclipse falling across his Ascendant axis in this 11.18am chart.
2010 Federal Election

My sense is that the coming federal election will be a very tight race, and may well end up in another hung parliament, perhaps with the Greens holding the balance of power, in keeping with Saturn’s move into Libra and outer planet alignment in cardinal signs which is so powerfully triggered by this lunar eclipse in June. The cardinal question being asked is who should we follow? Who can lead us towards a better future?
Interestingly, Gillard has chosen "moving forward" as a campaign mantra and slogan.

After the election...
It’s worth noting that the quintile pattern in her natal chart will be activated also by the position of the coming retrograde of Venus.
Transiting Juno, (key archetype of feminine power) will align with Gillard’s natal Venus-Pluto at that time, which seems to have an all-or-nothing flavour.
Venus will station direct at 27.40 Libra on November 18, which is on Gillard’s Mars. This may mean she retreats from public life post election, or at least make time for reflection and evaluation of which is normally associated with Venus retrograde.
