Lunar eclipses take place at Full Moon when the earth’s shadow falls across the Moon. Solar eclipses happen at new Moon, when the Moon is between the Sun and Earth.
There are normally four eclipses each year, two solar and two lunar. The ancients considered solar and lunar eclipses to be portents of disaster. The word disaster actually means apart (dis) from the stars (aster).
So if we think of ourselves as being separate from the whole of the universe, and not connected to it, we are more likely to bring disaster upon ourselves.
Solar eclipses should never be viewed, as to do so can cause blindness. Lunar eclipses, like the one on 28 August, 2007 can be viewed safely.
Aries
Mars in Gemini brings opportunities and activities thick and fast. Maybe it’s difficult to know the best option. You are probably keen to do everything at once. Mental energy and physical dexterity characterise this cycle. You can get a lot done, but try to focus on one thing at a time; this will ensure you finish what you start.
Taurus
Is it on again, off again, or on again? There’s a great deal of potential for confusion this month. For one thing Venus is retrograde, plus it continues to make contact with Saturn and Neptune. All this adds up to some frustration and a holding pattern. It is difficult to know which way is up. It’s probably best to wait and see.
Gemini
Mars is in your sign from the 8th which will give you a burst of enthusiasm and energy. This is a great time to launch new projects. It may have been a while since you felt such vitality, which may cause you to gulp down more than you can digest. By month’s end you might need to reach for the antacid or just ask for help.
Cancer
The Total Lunar Eclipse on 28 August takes place in your house of neighbours, siblings, learning and communication. This Full Moon polarisation highlights differences of opinion, potentially causing a heated debate. Don’t back down. You may need to be more forceful and direct than usual to get your point across.
Leo
The Leo New Moon on the 13th also sees Venus, Mercury and Saturn join forces in your sign. This constellation will have the effect of focusing energy, you are like a laser beam with such intensity and purpose that nothing can stand in your way, nothing that is, except Neptune, which may cause you some delays and frustrations.
Virgo
The Total Lunar Eclipse on Aug 28 is one of the key astrological events of the year, bringing you out from under a bushel and into the limelight, even if you don’t feel ready. But more importantly, you may come to the attention of someone who may very shortly play a significant role in your life.
Libra
Venus continues its retro cycle all month, so this is the perfect time to have a heart to heart with that special someone. The thing is that during Venus retro cycles you need to change your style and approach. You might even need to spend time alone, which is not your preferred option, but it might be just what you need right now.
Scorpio
Your normal approach to things is to plumb the depths, to get to the heart of the matter, to get up close and personal. But Mars is in Gemini which is a bit like a stone skipping quickly across the surface of a lake. You want to go deeper, but now is not the right time.
Sagittarius
It’s been a few months, but now Jupiter moves direct on the 7th. You have had to focus on your immediate environment for a while now, and deal with some matters that required your attention. But now you can take a longer term view and assess where you go from here.
Capricorn
Saturn is doing its last waltz through Leo this month, so now is the time to put the finishing touches to any big projects that you have been working on over the past two and a half years. Wrap it up and celebrate, you have done a great job. Take a break.
Aquarius
Saturn is about to move into Virgo, and your life is about to change. As the saying goes; as one door closes another opens. Before that happens however, you would be advised to take a moment to talk over your plans with loved ones who potentially will be affected by the decisions you are about to make.
Pisces
